Little local Edens open for viewing

It's the third year of Charlestown Open Gardens – a chance to gather some inspiration and have a good old nosy at what local householders have been designing and growing.

Calderside

Last year, close to a hundred visitors walked the route, visiting gardens with a huge variety of styles and features – including veg and herb beds, ponds, rockeries, patios and woodland glades. And donations raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

There's no parking at the gardens, so you can either start with a towpath walk from Hebden or catch a bus to the stop just after the Stubbing Wharf pub. The first garden is right on the corner of the main Halifax-Todmorden road and Calderside, and the rest of the route to another four gardens winds up through the beautiful woodland.

All the gardens and the walking route include uneven ground, steep steps and slopes.
