Wainsgate Chapel is proud to announce a whole weekend of folk/acoustic music starting on Friday 18th July. There's a superb line-up with headlining artists of national and international repute, and we are also showcasing the amazing talent of musicians hailing from the Yorkshire region.

Kicking off the Wainsgate Folk/Acoustic Weekend are renowned folk duo Hannah Sanders and Ben Savage. Hannah has a distinctive, pure and unforgettable voice and Ben Savage is a singular guitarist with a sound as distinctive as it is innovative.

Since emerging in 2016, they have been defying all conventions of style and genre. Their intimate live show has captivated audiences across the UK, US, Canada & Asia, sharing the stage with the likes of Fairport Convention, Martin Simpson, Ralph McTell and Seth Lakeman.

"I've loved Hannah Sanders' voice since first listen and Ben Savage is a master musician. they are both deep into the soul of their music" Mike Harding Folk Show

Saturday 19th sees a concert given by the award-winning Anglo-Scottish duo Janice Burns & Jon Doran ("Really well crafted, intimate, beautifully understated." Karine Polwart) who came together after discovering a shared love of traditional music and songs that tell vivid stories about the nature of life and our place in the world.

"Beautiful harmony singing, fretty mandolin and bouzouki instrument playing with loads of space for each. What a beautiful sound." – Anna Massie, BBC Radio Scotland

Also headlining on Saturday July 19th is The Charlotte Carrivick Band - pictured above. With a shared passion for modern bluegrass, The Charlotte Carrivick Band brings together four of the most exciting musicians in the UK today. Together, their music is at times joyous, poignant, dark, pensive or exuberant with virtuosic instrumentals and close harmony singing.

"formidable multi-instrumental skills" Q Magazine

"Charlotte's guitar playing is simply breathtaking" Americana UK

Totally different and quite extraordinary, Sunday's headliner on 20th July is the outstanding folk/ acoustic/ electronic 5-piece Remorae. ('Bold, electronic approach' Kathryn Tickell, BBC Radio 3). Described as 'eclectic', 'genre-bending', and 'an English Lankum', they intertwine strings, close harmony vocals, and electric guitar with live electronics to create soundworlds that shift between ambient, pulsing, cinematic and intimate, sometimes shimmering and glitching, sometimes raw and strange.

'Just wondrous.  I love the sounds… and that sense of journeying into the unknown they bring to their music' – Lopa Kathari (BBC Radio 3 Music Planet)

'Lovely sounds' - Eliza Carthy

Throughout the weekend there are also sets from musicians from across the Yorkshire region. These include Northumbrian pipes specialist Becky Taylor along with guitarist Ben Lawrence, singer/ songwriters Katie Spencer, Henry Parker and Lewis Pugh, singer and multi-instrumentalist Ewan D Rodgers, alt-acoustic quintet Les Gillon and the Agents of Karma, the Peaceworks Ceilidh Band and the local teenage folk phenomenon Jiggerie Folkerie.

The Wainsgate bars will be open all weekend with food available Saturday and Sunday. There is more information about the artists, programme times and how to get to Wainsgate at www.wainsgate.co.uk and tickets for all the concerts are available at Ticketsource.
