How to grow
perennial edibles

With Jack Wallington

Saturday 4 October
10am - noon

Event organised by Calderdale Ecological Land Trust (CELT) which is a Community Benefit Society on a mission to increase local production of agro-ecologically grown vegetables.

This is a session exploring the principles and plants behind the new Grow + Graze perennial edible garden with grower Jack Wallington.

Learn about different perennial edible crops that grow in gardens, how to grow them in a densely layered plant community and how to harvest from this style of growing.

Also covering why having an experimental mindset is essential in an unpredictable climate and the levels of care and maintenance needed in the first 1 - 2 years of a new plant community.

Jack is a lifelong gardener who loves growing everything from food to wildflowers, training professionally in later life to RHS Level 3 at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Based 1,000ft above sea level on an exposed hill in Calder Valley he specialises in experimental plant community design with a focus on low effort, high yield perennials.
