Disability Access Forum needs new members

Who we are?

Hebden Bridge Disability Access Forum, HBDAF, formed in 2016. We work to improve access to life in general in our local area and to raise awareness of disability issues. You can find information about us on our web page here.

We need more members

We believe it's really important to the local community that we continue our work. HBDAF would really benefit from new members and contributions from local disabled people

What we do

We have achieved many access improvements over the years, including reducing A boards obstructing Hebden Bridge pavements, contributions to local accessible homes policy, providing portable ramps and access advice to Hebden Bridge businesses, ramped access to cross the canal at Fountain Street, and recommendations for better access for all to local GP services. We also regularly produce a step-free access map and guide to Hebden Bridge town centre.

How we work

We currently meet every second month, in Hebden Bridge Town Hall and on zoom video at the same time, a hybrid meeting. Members also discuss issues between meetings on our online Google Group, and by phone, email or whatsapp. We contact, and meet with, people in outside agencies, to get work done. But we are very open to working in different ways and we'd love to hear any new ideas. Like different days, times, places. We want to include as many people as possible.

Next meeting Monday 17th November 2025, 2.30 to 4.30pm.

Please contact us on sechbdisabilityaccess@gmail.com or 01422 844914 to raise any access issues – barriers to accessing local places, events or services. And any local recommendations!

HBDAF welcomes all d/Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people as members, and those who have long-term health conditions. Naturally, that includes mental health conditions. We also welcome non-disabled people to join us as associates, to support us in our work.
