Parking on the main road between Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd

There is just over two weeks left for residents and visitors to support or object to Calderdale Council's changes to parking on the Burnley Road from the station at Hebden Bridge to Mytholmroyd. The closing date for comments and reactions is 29 January.

This stretch of Burnley Road currently offers unrestricted parking (i.e. without time limit) and is close to Hebden Bridge Railway Station and the Town Centre, so is very well used. There is dense parking for long periods of time throughout the week.

Calderdale is of the view that some of this parking makes it difficult for residents/visitors to safely access properties off Burnley Road because of the reduced visibility (notably Mayroyd, Tythe Barn and Falling Road).

Following a review of parking on this length of Burnley Road, the Council is proposing to introduce: -

  • Selected lengths of "no waiting at any time" restrictions (double yellow lines) to protect the above accesses/driveways providing better visibility.
  • The introduction of pay and display parking restrictions to help manage the supply and demand of on-street parking on Burnley Road and to encourage reduction of reliance on private vehicles, encouraging greater use of alternatives such as public transport.
  • The parking bays will also double up as residents parking bays. A further resident only parking bay is also proposed near to Thorn Bank.

In summary the scheme proposes to introduce the following restrictions (more detailed information is indicated in the supporting documents below):

  1. 'No waiting at any time' and 'no waiting and no loading at any time' restrictions on lengths of the A646 Burnley Road
  2. 'No waiting at any time and no loading at any time' restrictions on both sides of Station Road at its junction with Burnley Road
  3. Shared 'residents permit' parking* and 'long stay pay and display parking' 8am-8pm daily on lengths of the north eastern side of the A646 Burnley Road
  4. 'Residents only' permit parking for adjacent residents* at all times on the north eastern side of the A646 Burnley Road adjacent to Thorn Bank

Changes to existing parking tariffs within the central area of Hebden Bridge are also being made shortly. These will include the use of lower priced off-peak tariffs in some on street locations and will also see the introduction of capped rates in long stay parking bays.
