Community-owned car scheme made more accessible
POD, the community-owned car scheme, is delighted to announce that one of their cars is now fitted with hand controls for disabled users.
The car is one of PODs fleet based in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, that are bookable by the hour, with subscribers able to access a car instantly using POD's app.
Thanks to generous support from the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge and Todmorden Town Council, the hybrid hatchback has been fitted with hand controls for accelerator and brake, with an additional indicator control. There is also a quick-release steering aid, with a choice of handle attachments.
Professional installer Jeff Gosling was contracted to fit the adaptations, which do not interfere with the operation of the car by drivers who do not use them.
POD's manager Kieran Turner said, "POD aims to improve sustainable transport choices for everyone, enabling people to use a car when it's the right mode of transport for them, but without the burden of the costs of car ownership."
