Local cost of living help

Saturday, 17 December 2022

Hebden Royd Town Council has responded to the Cost of Living Crisis by establishing a Cost of Living Committee and have allocated an initial £30,000 to support groups providing food and those providing Warm Spaces in Hebden Royd.

The funds have been distributed to two groups who are providing food for those in need in Hebden Royd. Calder Community Cares and Calder Food Support work together to ensure their resources are fairly distributed to those in need throughout Hebden Royd. Warm food is also available on a Wednesday evening at Hope Baptists 'Grub Hub'. (HebWeb News, 21 Nov)

Richard Needham, Chair of the Cost of Living Committee commented, "The whole Council has come together to do what we can to ensure that voluntary groups have the resources they need. It's the least we can do - it is the worst of times for many people and these groups are working to the limit to support those who need it."

The Town Council has also funded five groups who will be opening their buildings, welcoming those who need a 'warm space'. St James in Mytholm will be welcoming visitors on a Tuesday Morning with Hebden Bridge Methodists being open on a Friday from 10am til 2pm. In Mytholmroyd the Community Centre is open on a Tuesday and Thursday from 11am until 2pmwith a warm welcome and in Cragg Vale, at St Johns Church, there will be food and drink on a Tuesday afternoon from 2pm to 6pm and on a Sunday at 2pm until 5pm. Finally, in the New Year, Hebden Bridge Town Hall will be open, again for food and drink on a Tuesday and a Thursday from 4pm until 7pm.

Each warm space will see everyone receive a warm welcome from the staff and volunteers there with all being treated equally and with dignity and respect.

You can also take advantage of Calderdale Libraries who are designated Warm Spaces this winter also. Hebden Bridge Library is a place where you are welcome to come in from the cold. Hope Baptist Church in
